About
MHACV provides leadership in Mental Health Advocacy, Community Education, Direct Services and Applied Research in the communities of the Central San Joaquin Valley.
Advocacy
MHACV spearheads the Wellness Coalition made up of 15 community-based organizations. The coalition empowers underserved communities to play an active role in local and state mental health policy and program development through policy and program education, training and linkage and brokerage.
Community Education
MHACV engages in community education by conducting workshops at community organizations including K-12 schools, colleges, ethnic community-based organizations, faith centers, etc. It distributes information to the community on mental illness and mental health services via information booths at community events and email distribution lists. MHACV provides technical support to local mental health efforts.
MHACV is a major provider for Mental Health First Aid USA, a nationally recognized first aid course for the general population that teaches skills to assist individuals who are developing mental health and substance use problems or who are in crisis.
Direct Services
MHACV supports the development of local peer support services such as Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance, Recovery International, and Active Minds on Campus. It is also in the process of developing culturally appropriate social rehabilitation services for its target population.
MHACV also supports the Interfaith Mental Health Alliance as this organization endeavors to provide education and support to clergy and faith leaders – often the first responders to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
Applied Research
MHACV provides program evaluations, community needs assessment and consultation services.
